The Department of Archeology at the Faculty of Arts, Tanta University, is considered the first archeology department in the Delta, and the fourth department in the Republic. It is one of the ancient departments. It was unique at the time as it had three divisions: Egyptian Archeology, Greek and Roman Archeology, and Islamic Archeology. Then the Tourist Guidance Division was recently added. The Delta contains many heritage archaeological sites that have human and historical value that must be preserved. The department works to preserve human heritage by working on archaeological awareness among students and instilling values and morals in its students. Youth are the future of the nation, so work and diligence must be done to advance the development process on our beloved land. The Department of Archeology also organizes field studies on the antiquities of all of Egypt. In the first year, students visit the antiquities of Cairo, Giza, and Alexandria and their museums. In the second year, students visit the antiquities of Central Egypt, Minya and Sohag. In the third year, students visit the antiquities of Luxor and Aswan, and in the fourth year, students visit the antiquities of oases in the Western desert, as well as Wadi Hammamet in the Eastern Desert and Qusayr, in addition to daily field visits to the delta’s antiquities. All of these field visits give the student great experiences that can help him work in any region in the republic.
This is what is actually happening, as there is no place we can go except to find a graduate from our students. Despite the multiplicity of archaeological studies and research that antiquities have received locally and globally, they are in need of more academic studies and research. In our department, faculty members carry out academic studies and research. The department also adopts a vision that stems from a positive orientation towards establishing an educational environment and climate based on positive human relations. Which ultimately leads to the development of the educational system with the adoption of development tools.
My greetings to my distinguished professors, my fellow faculty members, and my children who are students of the Department of Archeology at the Faculty of Arts, Tanta University, who are up to the responsibility, whether from a scientific standpoint or in terms of their distinguished contributions to various activities at the college and university levels. With my greetings, I am pleased to welcome my children, the new students, who have made me happy with their diligence. Joining the family of one of the oldest archeology departments in Egypt, and I extend my congratulations to them on the occasion of the new academic year.
